Enviromental Policy

We acknowledge that our veterinary activities, services and operations have an impact on the environment and have identified key impacts related to our business that contribute to our environmental and carbon footprint. Through the implementation of this sustainability policy, we will encourage wide reaching participation, working to reduce these impacts, whilst upholding the highest standards of animal health, welfare and clinical care for our patients.

Key Impacts

We have identified the following key business activities that contribute to our overall environmental and carbon footprint.

  • ï‚· Use of electricity and fossil fuels

  • Waste generation & disposal (General & Clinical)

  • Use of anaesthetic gases 

  • Use of water

  • Carbon emissions from staff and customer travel

  • Consumption of raw materials (e.g. plastic syringes, needles, prescribed drugs, packaging.)

  • Use of parasiticides

  • Use of antimicrobials

  • ï‚· Procurement of goods & services

Actions

  • The formation of a “Green Team” to monitor and implement policies and schemes into the practice to combat the environmental impact of the practice.

  • Annual waste audits to monitor the success of recycling and waste segregation.

  • Where possible reduce the use of single-use products / packaging, including reducing the use of plastic dispensing bottles as appropriate.

  • Have policies in place for the use of the appropriate parasite control for the individual animal based on their lifestyle.

  • Have a strong antibiotic / antimicrobial usage policy in place.

Targets

Our overall target is to reduce waste production, reduce our usage of single use plastics / products and to monitor and reduce our carbon footprint.
